Basics of Fired Clay Forms

The elective explore techniques of working with clay like Pinching, Coiling, Slab, Solid Sculptures, Wheel Throwing, Glazing etc.. Different types of clay like Terracotta and Kumbhar clay were used to make forms and sculptures and fired in a kiln.

This sculpture was made using the SLAB TECHNIQUE where the clay is rolled into 7mm sheets or slabs, and cut and used as required

Abstract sculpture using SLAB TECHNIQUE

This sculpture was made using the PINCHING technique. To me it depicts the natural curves of nature. From one angle it looks like a bird taking flight, from another a swan's graceful neck bending down to take a long and satisfying drink.

Tentacle Goblet: The terracotta sculpture was made by carving a solid lump of clay. To avoid exploding of sculpture inside the kiln, it was mixed with sawdust and grog (aggregate) to create air pockets
