Quantitative study on: How do Building forms affect Mutual Shading?
Preventing solar heat gains during summer months remains a primary concern in tropical regions like south-east Asia. Hence, shading from the southern sun is essential to keep buildings cool and reduce cooling loads. Based on this understanding, a shadow analysis was done on 4 different building forms sited in the same location and orientation in Ahmedabad. Annual average of shaded hours was studied for all forms between 12 pm to 7 pm on Andrew marsh tool, and the results showed that Tilted-mass form provides maximum shading hours throughout the year as compared to any other form.
