A city is a layer of different aspects like economic, social, political, functional, These all are interconnected with each other and determinants the overall character of the city. Although the city can be observed through many macro scale to micro level aspects. Understanding the city,  through the study of the one square kilometre precinct lies on the eastern fringe of Ahmadabad. The major transformation in the city of Ahmedabad has happened over the years due to various determinants like urban migration, policy level intervention and infrastructural interventions. The study shows that after the implementation of GIDC act 1962 industries are established on the eastern fringe, which led to the development. These transformation and development has a significant impact on the overall character and function of the precinct. This reading of Odhav has been compiled using 1st hand surveys, extrapolated data, news articles, interviews and readings, about Odhav-Rakhial, the book is divided into six chapters. Further explain the impact of the industry as an economic generator, nuisance of industry and environment degradation. Limitation of the industrial neighbourhood regarding housing characteristic. Upliftment of the public amenities and utilizes. A socio-economic character of the precinct and the conclusion of theses all aspects.
