Garden of Reviving Cultural Memories

People tend to perceive different emotions and thoughts while experiencing seasonal variations in the landscape. These seasonal variations are celebrated in India via different festivals. Some welcome the onset of the new year while some celebrate the harvest season, the rains, or the full moon: Kojagiri Purnima. These festivals are associated with natural associations. For instance, Kojagiri Purnima is associated with white flowers, Parijat , Raat rani flowers and mango leaves. My intent is to revive the lost cultural connection between the people of the Kolhapur city and the lake through the medium of garden design at the edge of the lake which discards all the external activities of humans only to invite and stimulate the interaction of man and nature. This helps the inhabitants to take time and ponder more to what is and has been existing in the past and what could exist now. Such experience tends to instill a cure in the staggered emotions and thoughts of the people. Also, the garden will be an antidote for the piece of land itself as it will give an identity of itself with changing seasons. In doing so, the temporal nature of water will help facilitate seasonal changes in planting, offering a new character and experience to waterfront design.
