WALLx

The final design problem was to make a kinetic system which would function climatically or spatially. A design for a double laid rotating wall was developed based on a rack and pinion system. The insert was named WALLx, and had variations named WALLxSEATING (WxS), WALLxWINDOW (WxW), WALLxBALCONY (WxB) and so on and so forth. Primarily, it was a double wall which rotated to allow interactions with the outside atmosphere. The cavity space could be used for other purposes. The system was detailed to the last nut and bolt, and construction drawings were made. Google Drive Link for the complete portfolio.

A problem with origami has been implementing it on a large scale with structural materials. Due to this, joineries were tried between rigid MDF surfaces, fabric, plastic ties and hinges.
