Solid Waste Management

“Solid waste is the discarded leftovers of our advanced consumer society. This growing mountain of garbage and trash represents not only an attitude of indifference toward valuable natural resources but also a serious economic and public health problem.”         Solid waste management has been a dominant urban problem. According to UNCRD, Ahmedabad generates about 1,10,667 MT of waste per month. Every individual is a potential generator of waste and thus a contributor to this problem. Generally, the produced waste is more than it can be managed. Indraprasth Tower doesn’t segregate waste at source. Lack of waste management regime and policies, as well as resident’s motivation are key factors of this problem. Awareness and education campaign targeting all residents has to be initiated in order to achieve a hundred percent segregation at source and improved practices such as composting and recycling in order to minimize waste generation.
