Network Design for Water Systems

The students would have to conceptualize and design fluid based networks. The studio would explore the concepts of fluid mechanics, where students would be expected to test and develop concepts based on the principle of fluid dynamics.
The first part of the studio would introduce the concepts of fluid mechanics like Pascal’s law, Bernoulli’s principle etc. The students would test these principles in the lab and build instruments with application of these principles. In the later exercises students, the students would be building fluid based systems and testing the equations for frictional losses of energy in a piped as well as channel based network. Students would also be measuring pressure and flow by building their own systems for measurement of velocity, pressure and flow.

As a final studio exercise students would be building a network that would be 10 m in one of the dimension. The network would be designed to carry water at a given flow, and required pressure at outlet. So that velocity shall remain between minimum and maximum values.
