Network Design for Water Systems

Fluid mechanics forms the basis of wet infrastructure design. In this studio we helped the students to explore concepts of fluid mechanics by demonstration projects. The first part of the studio ntroduced the concepts of fluid. The students tested these principles in the lab and built instruments with application of these principles. In the later exercises, the students built fluid-based systems and tested the equations for frictional losses of energy in piped and channel-based networks. Students also measured pressure and flow by building their own systems for measurement of velocity, pressure, and flow. As a final studio exercise students built a network that was 10 m in one of the dimensions.
