FOREST RESEARCH INSTITUTE, BHUJ

Forest research institute located in the contour site of Bhuj, Gujarat which comes under the hot and dry climate. The Project primarily dealt with climatic issue and context of the region to create climate responsive building. Building placed on the leeward side to protect from the west sun and hot wind coming from south west side. Circulation defined by columns and that semi open space  act as buffer zone to protect inside spaces from direct sun radiation. The design follows other passive climatic strategies like high thermal mass, earth coupling, roof garden, sunken courtyard which can act as cool air pocket. The accommodation block kept higher level with large height so that it can shield the courtyard and building underneath. Rectangular form of accommodation block and openings help to get cross ventilation during night time. Whole block envelope by vertical operable louvers which protect from sun and allow ventilation at same time. Solar panels generate power and extrusion canopy above protect accommodation from direct sun radiation.
