GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH CLAY THROUGH A NEW LENS

PROJECT BRIEF - TO CREATE A CULTURE -  Clay club not only aims to introduce clay as a material in multiple aspects of our everyday life for different purposes big or small (from a facade to a musical instrument), but also to make people get acquainted with the idea of 'hands on' with the material.
My understanding of brief to show the gist of clay club where a person not only sees the product display but also gets the idea of its process of making and the culture and ideology of clay club.--

CONCEPT NOTE - ORANGISED . OPERATIVE . ORGANIC - The identity of Clay Club is not because of the products they make but because of the culture they aim to create by making people get to use clay products in all aspects of life and also by making them learn about the material and its processes. The concept to me was to place clay club between a studio experience, a retail and also in interpretative space. The space gives you a feel of being in a studio where not only the products are displayed but also the process of them from ideation to the finish have been talked about, cluture of clay club is shown and also one gets a chance to have the hands on with the material.

PROCESS ( based on the site and the precedent study of clay space and the products)

Spatial Zoning and study of products went hand in hand during the process as there were multiple products but all needed to be segregated in different zones to emphasize on the feel of the particular.

Division of the products based on their distance of viewing and spatial zoning. According to the product analysis the structural or the wall based products requires more distance in viewing which can be achieved either in the beginning of the space where there is a wider walk zone or in the end of the space where the thickness of the exhibit wall frame increases. Rest the elemental products can go in between.

THE OUTSIDE SPACE - Phylosophical journey of a clay product from raw to finsih with the process in betwee. 1. RAW - The clay wall in the making. 2. PROCESS - The area for clay workshops and discussions to be held to make people know the culture 3. FINISH - The lattice structural wall to show how a small unit can also be used in architecture and interiors.

The emotions held in the entire space. Based on the concept, brief of clay club, the product study and the 965. The entire space has the element of Shant Ras throughout. Sharting from RED RAW - the eye catcher as you move further towards the end of the space the sense of exploration keeps increasing based on the zoning of process and products.

ZONE 1 -- The first impression of the space shows gist of all the products of clay club in its raw form which also becomes eye catch being red in color. -- The raw products also carry the same smell of clay for a person to get the entire feel of being in an “Exhibit studio space of clay” -- The breather / trailer space (Like we have semi private space between private and public space) -- Something where some part of the exhibit is already known to a person ZONE 2 AND THRUSHOLD 1- -- The murals (being one of the product in focus of the clay club) has been kept in the start for two reasons 1. The distance requited to view them 2. The idea of sense of exploration to be increased as you move forward in the space (965). Murals are still known to people in compatision to the lattice and so they have been kept first in the space. THRESHOLD 1 - -- According to any religion the god is always placed first and in the center. With the same thought in mind the main

ZONE 3 - -- The process has been centered on the bulky chunk (like the bulky working slabs in clay spaces) -- The process shows all stages from raw clay, pottery wheel, molds, tools, firing to glazing. -- There are 4 niches on the walls (two on each side displaying 4 different small products done by clay club) example - musical instrument, crockery, pots etc. -- While doing pottry people find a sense of calmness and go in the meditative state. The texture on the wall represent the same with a little touch or energy and hallucination as this is the process zone. THRUSHOLD 2 - -- The facade done in clay red not only breaks the color pattern of the space but also it being formed according to the structure makes a person feel the space of the space through it, --The lamps done by clay club are hung in the center of this zone -- The lattice division not only marks the end of this threshold but also Introduces what is going to be the final product of the space

ZONE 4 -- The playful and explorative zone -- The idea was to show the lattice in the maximum ways possible for people to know how and where it can be used. -- From having it as a back of a window (green) To the partition of the living space Or On the ceiling which can have the reflection on the floor and make a pattern
