VISHRAM : A Break from Convention

The idea behind “Vishram” is to provide a rejuvenating break from convention. The compact pods with their dramatic angular walls set in a traditional gothic church facilitates a distinctive visual aesthetic and experience. Various features such as underground aquariums against the stone floor, the levels and platforms within a built structure, the dramatic angles against the conventional form of a church and the choice of surfaces realise the dynamic contrast to provide a respite from the formulaic. Considering the two user groups i.e. students and a young family, special emphasis has been given to the spaces facilitating interaction. The recreational areas surrounded by the wide staircases on either sides and platform on top creates the perfect balance between exterior and interior. Equipped with seating arrangements, planters, the underground aquariums, a walkway and a small park, the recreation area offers something for everyone. The interior colour palette ensures that the compact spaces do not seem condescending. Features such as angularity and surface play ensure unique spatial qualities.
