Color In Light

In a world that has succumb to a pursuit for a better “tomorrow” we somehow have forgotten to appreciate “today”. The architecture that is practiced are mere image products, an architecture that is for and of the photographic eye. The building we design are detached from any existential sincerity and stand as mere “solved” equations and an expression of forms. In a world that is becoming more and more externalised and devoid of any reverence to its its surroundings, shelters is the only physical intervention of humans that once did possess. I would like to believe that, Color and light are the primary phenomenon that constitute a room or a space. Here the word color is not only used to imply pigment but also the inherent quality of matter itself. It signifies material, texture and emotion. Light is understood as the giver of life and it is this quality of light that provides life to a space. I believe, though a building is designed and constructed for a certain purpose it has an existential desire of its own. This desire is what gives it the purpose to survive beyond its “use”. Thus, “Color in light” is the exploration of the corporeal aspects of matter in the presence of the metaphysical. It is a constant struggle to establish a relationship between art and architecture through these realms of reality. Both Color and Light are sensory qualities that reach beyond language and analysis and have to be experinced. The combination of mystery or the unknown and serenity is one I would like to consider as important aspects in our works. Architecture, for me, is the culmination of the art and craft of creating spaces. Architecture is the essence beyond a need and strives to create the unthinkable, the unheard and the unrealised. My search here has begun from this understanding and realisation that architecture just cannot be the mere design of buildings but has more to offer. I have also come to realise that the pursue is not only to find answers through this field of art but it is a journey which entails one to find him/herself. Architecture is everywhere and I would like to believe, that it is architecture, of all the forms of art ,that primarily affects ones existential quality. If I had to reduce architecture to its bare elements, for me to lay the ground work for my own journey then I would define it as the coming together of Color in the presence of Light.
