Umang : a play pavilion

This project is dedicated to the construction workers and their families residing in Ahmedabad. Working on the ongoing construction of 3 towers in this area; several workers have migrated to and fro this site since 2016. Umang: a play pavilion is a contextual yet creative design intervention for the children of these workers. While being exposed to dangerous construction equipment on the site, these children find themselves unattended for most part of their days. A majority below 5 years in age, these children are merely looking for a safe and secure environment that can enrich their childhood years. PROJECT BRIEF: Umang provides a platform to these children to explore their creative abilities and release their childhood energy in a safe environment. Focused on the 5 main domains of early childhood development, this play pavilion is flexible in its basic design format so as to meet the specific needs of its users.
