Road to Repentance

In today’s life, where we have hardened ourselves, pretending to be strong and busy, we tend to hide our emotions. Accumulation of negative emotions such as anger, guilt and sorrow affect our overall health and personality. These emotions of guilt and sorrow have burdened our minds such that we are unable to wholeheartedly be in our present moment. The Road to Repentance offers a path to acknowledge one’s guilt and other negative emotions, in order to overcome it, since acceptance is the first step towards letting go of such emotions and enabling a “change of heart” (Hridaya Parivartan).  The abandoned and decaying condition of the site projects a similar sentimental and emotional value. The program here uses this setting to create a journey of experiences intended to evoke the dormant emotions, so that it could be better dealt with. A physical path is created traversing across the site. The spatial quality of the path varies according to the stages of repentance. It starts from acknowledging the guilt, to the resolution, to moving on. A person feels this transition in their emotions due to the impact of the surroundings and ultimately transcends and frees one from the negative emotions.
