The Geotechnical Spectrum

The studio, Geotechnical Parameters: Influencing Foundation Systems introduces us the the engineering that deals with the complex material that is soil, and how it ultimately affects the design of a foundation system. The studio began with an exploration into the various concepts related to geotechnical engineering. We then visited an allotted site, at which we conducted field investigations and soil exploration by drilling a bore hole. Laboratory investigations were carried on the samples collected from the site to classify the soil type and obtain its various parameters. We further carried out experiments to understand how soil stabilisation using additives affect the soil behaviour.Based on these learnings, we ultimately designed foundation systems with the reference of Indian Standard Codes for a specific structure which would be safe against shear and settlement criterias for a certain kind of soil strata as well as loading conditions.
