With the Spatial theme of Assembling the volumes through Solid and Void, the proposed project is a Centre for Arts and Crafts of Western Region Of India. The abandoned site is adjacent to the sabarmati river. The site has a very
strong structural grid and has a sense of MODULARITY. Each square of
the grid acts as a UNIT. These units when combined in X,Y and Z directions,
creates a VOLUME. Each volume having different dimensions, is then overlapped
or placed adjacent to each other in order to achieve programme
needs.
The site is interpreted as a wireframe in which the volumes are assembled.
Each of the volumes will have a different purpose and experience, yet
connected to one larger volume. Every Two volumes will be connected with
a transition space. Here, the transition space becomes SOLID and the
volume itself becomes a VOID. The larger volume, that is created by the
assembly of other volumes, becomes a central space. Public zones are organised
in the voids, while private zones and service areas are organised in
the Solids.
