Architecture of Urban Node

Both cities and buildings are synonymous to growth and evolution of human civilization in history and has led to many debates and theories of design and construction of our built environment. There is continuous efforts of defining and appropriating meaning and form in urban design and architecture to the evolving social and cultural aspects of our urban life. Rapid urbanization has put cities under major transformation and into new challenges of idea of urban space and architectural discourse. Various critical theories in urban design and architecture has emphasized the focus on 'Space' representing the social, cultural, economical and psychological aspects of our urban life. With mobility emerging as the major cultural pattern of urban life, the transportation nodes like bus terminus, railway station etc. in cities become a very important urban element seeking new urban definition and architectural resolution and to explore its multidimensional role beyond its infrastructural character. The studio will critically explore the potential of transportation node as an important emerging public place and architectural type.
