Tracing Material Shifts through the Facades of Mundra

The studio focused on two modules, reshaping how spaces are visually represented and teaching literature survey strategies. Exploring Gujarat's port towns, Mundra and Mandvi, we gathered site information from secondary sources, creating base drawings. Introduction to illustrative journaling captured initial site impressions. Despite timber not being native to Mundra, it played a key role in its building culture, prompting my interest in correlating timber, trade, and house form. Using mind maps and questionnaires, I triangulated architectural data with pieces of literature, resulting in an essay and detailed facade drawings, aiming to understand Mundra's material culture through its facades.
