Melodic Retreat

This design is based on the concept of a mobius strip which is essentially a surface with just one side. This idea has been used to blur the lines between inside and outside in the design. While, the house which is a musician's retreat, responds equally to the various factors, the amphitheatre designed for larger gatherings responds primarily to the river. Apart from the conventional spaces, the house also has a practice room and a pavilion for teaching students of the music institution 'Saptak' managed by the family. The design uses CSEB bricks made of soil sourced from the site itself for the walls and brick tiles for the vaults, which significantly lower the carbon footprint of this construction thereby making it sustainable. It is worth noting that the site's proximity to nature isn't disturbed in any way, rather the design works with nature. The serenity of the river Sabarmati and the lush green surroundings all add to the calm that a classical musician and their music exudes.
