The Grotto

The Grotto stands as a haven for teenagers seeking refuge from the demands of academic life, offering a vibrant after-school center where they can collectively unite while embracing their individuality. Tailored for adolescents aged 13-17, The Grotto provides an environment for both learning and leisure, featuring engaging activities such as scrapbooking and karaoke. Inspired by the inherent desire of teenagers to liberate themselves from societal expectations and renounce conformity, the design of the space embodies a commitment to breaking free from the existing shell. As both the activities are contrasting in nature, the elements incorporated are also contrasting. The karaoke space is darker compared to the other spaces. The play of heavy and light can also be seen through the openings of the two spaces. The furniture of the space stays true to the organic nature of the form.
