Citywide Inclusive Sanitation in Ujjain

Sanitation in any city is a wicked problem – there is no one solution to its issues. In the tourist city of Ujjain, which has a high floating population, catering to the needs of the tourists and the impact of unpredictable footfall is pivotal. Through the studio exercise, our group i.e the Sanitation sector visited Ujjain twice to understand its character and conducted surveys at household, tourist, urban poor and institutional level. Public toilets, which cater to the tourist population of the city and Urban poor, where poor septage management was observed, were selected as two areas of intervention.
