Climate Resilient Design and Planning strategies for Kochi

Design is a powerful tool that can shape public spaces and interactions. Kochi city being a major hub of commercial, technological and industrial activities, it is home for a diverse range of people. Being a rapidly growing urban region, the city is also attracting a lot of investments. However, it has been confronting the dual challenges of climate change as well as inequality. Through strategic planning, this can be enhanced in ways that can increase the liveability of the city and bring in more inclusivity. As the world is facing challenges of climate change, many cities are turning to design solutions for achieving climate resilience. Cities such as Detroit has been
promoting inclusive design to secure grater participation of all sections of the society in the economy, access public systems efficiently and enhance the liveability of the city. As Kochi has faced such challenges in the past years, a similar approach can be used here as well. Thus, this project will study the potential of place-based strategies required for inclusion of all sections and climate resilience by deploying design strategies
