The aim of the research project is to make the city of Kochi climate resilient, by recommending planning and design strategies. Climate resilience, climate change, global warming and natural disasters go hand in hand. Every city has started facing its unique issues due to climate change. In Kochi, it is majorly due to flooding. Every year during the monsoons, the city is in the news showing the flooded city and the problems faced by the people every year due to the same. Therefore, focusing on solving the problem of flooding, the major issues causing it are identified in the city and then recommendations are given accordingly. Apart from a few macro level recommendations, the rest of the recommendations can only be given based on specific locations and issues. Thus, a small chunk of area is identified as the most vulnerable area within the city, which very frequently gets flooded. A detailed analysis of this area was done, and location specific solutions are given. This can act as a pilot project and be implemented at various other places after tweaking a little according to the site. During the process, various on-site studies, stakeholder consultations, national and international case examples have been investigated. The idea is to make Kochi an example for the world to tackle the problem of flooding.
