5S is a widely utilized lean tool in construction projects, known for its visual management approach that provides clear guidance for improvement and sustainability to site personnel. To ensure the site is following 5S principles, personnel trained in the 5S tool inspect the site and provide suggestions for improvement. Often, a site personnel who is aware of 5s tool inspects the site and provides the suggestions for improvements. Many a time the site photographs are taken and these photographs are discussed in the meetings for areas of improvement. These improvements fall under categories such as sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain. With the advent of image processing, supported by machine learning, this process of suggesting improvement for few of categories like sort, set in order and shine can be automated.
