Geotechnical Parameters: Influencing Foundation Design

The studio primarily focuses on the foundation design of an overhead water tank with different load conditions on different types of soil. Hence, the type of foundation depends on the amount of pressure exerted on the soil. Various tests are performed on site to collect the samples and then in the laboratory to understand the type of soil, index properties and shear properties of soil. Ultimately foundation is highly dependent on these properties and hence designing a foundation needs a calculative and analytical study. The portfolio begins with the various conceptual terms and then ultimately dives into the foundation design.

The above image shows the mind map of different geotechnical terms and concepts

This image shows the pictures of sample collection of soil from Vadodara, Gujarat. It also shows the borehole data of the test performed

This image shows the different tests performed on the procured soil from the site visit. The results of these tests give us the index properties of soil.

This is the final summary table of the tests performed. The image also includes the final soil profile. It also includes the whole process of model making

This image shows us the comparison of various soil properties on unmixed soil and the soil mixed with stone dust.

The final foundation design case 1: Low load intensity (Isolated Foundation)

The final foundation design case 2: Medium load intensity (Circular Raft Foundation)

The final foundation design case 3: High load intensity (Pile Foundation)
