The Edge - Conservations at Sundarbans' Threshold

This project is an effort to retain the buffer between the forest and the human habitation. It deals with a restored ecosystem which can sustain man and nature’s fury effectively, as well as provide a home for the ailing and sick fauna unique to the Sundarban mangroves. The goal is to frame strategies for the edge islands of the Sundarbans’ as well as laying out a masterplan for the southern edge of Jharkhali island, where the state govt. has proposed a zoological garden. A naturalistic habitat (with native landscape) and conservation centre for the endangered fauna of Sundarban. It will provide a home for the sick and strayed Bengal Tigers who need treatment and care. Interpretation and educational programmes will help foster the importance of the mangrove ecosystem. Breeding and ex-situ conservation programmes can help propagate endangered species and continue indigenous gene pools. Strategies to reduce tourist pressure on the National Park.
