Sustainable and Smart Built Environment (revised)

In the present scenario with the increased pressure on the available urban resources it is of utmost importance to create the buildings that are designed with principles of sustainability and/or resource efficiency.

This studio is proposed to design the buildings / retrofit existing building with respect to following focus
o Building and the site
This will deal with the site layout design for building(s) with respect to the site conditions and the climate of place. The building form should respond to the existing site conditions with respect to resources as – wind, water, solar radiation, vegetation, etc
o The building
The students will deal with designing of building(s) considering the conservation of resources such as electricity, water and assuring good light and ventilation. This will entail the passive strategies as well as active strategies for a comfortable living. It will also involve use of appropriate software tools to design and analyse buildings – eg. Ecotect, DesignBuilder. The building design will be done as weekly exercises with clearly defined requirements substantiated with appropriate inputs for concepts/tools.
