Traditionally, crafts have occupied a significant sector in the Indian context of interior architecture. As we progressed further in time, the crafts have also evolved from old practices to the new present-day crafts due to modernisation in India. Hence their involvement in spacemaking has also evolved. This study aims to understand this ‘newness’ in the crafts. It investigates and establishes modern crafts in the context of space-making. It applies the discourse analysis of what Modern means from other disciplines - art and architecture to the crafts sector through analytical theoretical frameworks. The results formulate an understanding of the modern approaches in crafts to plot any interior architecture project on a traditional to modern scale through defined key parameters and lenses.
