Urban Governance and Management | Solid Waste Management

Focusing on solid waste management in Kheda municipality, a tier C city with its distinctive characteristics, the project delves into a challenging scenario. Despite ranking thirteenth among all nagarpalikas in Gujarat in the Swachh Survekshan report, Kheda presents a visually littered environment, marked by numerous Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and informal dumping grounds. Waste clogs not only drainage channels but also occupies open spaces. To comprehend the existing state of municipal solid waste management (MSWM) in Kheda, the project undertook assessments of current scenarios, policy analysis, benchmarking of best practices, examination of case studies from various cities, and engagement with stakeholders.  We recognized the necessity and potential benefits of implementing efficient routing, scheduling, and monitoring systems to better utilize existing resources and assets. Consequently, suggestions were put forward to enhance the framework of the Solid Waste Management system with the aim of increasing its efficiency.
