Navo Strot: A New Way of Looking at Used Water

RECLAIMING USEDWATER: USEDWATER Reuse Strategies To Make Ahmedabad WATER+
Ahmedabad's heavy reliance on Narmada River water and groundwater has led to significant depletion, with its water table ranking third deepest in the country, exacerbated by unauthorized water withdrawal flagged by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the city generates 1300 MLD of wastewater daily, yet only 28% is utilized, presenting an opportunity to curb freshwater diversion for non-potable uses, particularly in industry. The proposed pilot aims to reduce reliance on conventional sources by repurposing treated wastewater, thereby conserving groundwater, lessening dependence on freshwater, and establishing a financially feasible model for wastewater reuse. Moreover, this initiative will provide a new source of revenue for the urban local bodies, thereby strengthening their financial position and in process making Ahmedabad a WATER+ city.
