Planning and Design of Road Infrastructure

This studio focuses on the challenge of planning and designing an appropriate road alignment in various terrains, considering the potential impacts of both natural and built environments. The application of civil engineering principles and techniques is integral to analyzing and designing the road route and its pavements, aiming to generate effective solutions. Through exploration of survey principles, highway materials, and diverse highway design aspects, students will gain insights using existing roadway examples and interactive sessions. The studio involves exercises and discussions on existing roadways and related facilities, empowering students to propose their own alignments and design elements, conduct quantity calculations, and perform parametric studies, including road safety analysis. The development of skills in visualization and data analysis, utilizing advanced mapping techniques such as 3D models, DSM, and drive-through videos, will be emphasized. To achieve these tasks, exposure and skill-building with cutting-edge design tools like Open-Road Concept station and Bentley Reality modelling will be provided.
