TA: Khadheeja Shareef | Vrushali JanweFragments : Architecture and the Unfinished
The ideal of wholeness and finality that we associate with the aspirations of architects in both contemporary as well as since antiquity is a matter of debate from the Renaissance onward and, both deliberately and inevitably, was shattered in the modern era. The underlying theme of this studio – fragmentation in architecture since the mid-eighteenth century to till date – will offer each student their own belief and perception in individual scholarly ‘fragments’, they would approach the chosen design project, the topic that resonate with inherent theme in architecture. Each individual architect of the age, personal and professional interests have deliberately has addressed the same and with very varying intentions.
The range of subject matter embraces the architectural effects and philosophical implications of fragmentation, examinations of the antiquity found in RUINS by the renaissance and then ire discovered ( measured drawings and re construction) during neo Classical Age that was embraced by all modern and now contemporary architects. The twentieth century explores aspects of modernist domestic architecture by Erno Goldfingr.
The studio will then evolve a detailed project brief surrounding the above theme and each student will design a project with the chosen site context.
