Green Vein - Reimagining stormwater and Social space

Green Vein is a landscape intervention aimed at transforming the often-overlooked stormwater corridors along S.G Highway, Ahmedabad into dynamic, multifunctional green infrastructure. This project reimagines these linear spaces not just as conduits for water, but as vibrant public realms that come alive during monsoon seasons and remain ecologically productive year-round. The design harnesses the seasonal pulse of rainwater through a series of terraced bioswales, permeable surfaces, and retention basins that actively engage during heavy rainfall. These features slow, filter, and channel stormwater while allowing for maximum infiltration into the groundwater table, contributing to urban aquifer recharge. Simultaneously, the landscape doubles as a social spine - featuring pedestrian paths, shaded seating zones, natural play areas, and event spaces that reconnect urban dwellers with nature. Green Vein not only addresses the pressing issues of urban flooding and water scarcity, but also fosters community engagement, ecological resilience and climate adaptability in one of Ahmedabad’s busiest Transit corridors
