Rooted Minds - Timetables to Discovery

Rooted Minds is an institutional landscape design for Shreyas Foundation, where the campus is envisioned as a village, echoing the organic, clustered arrangement of classroom blocks inspired by traditional hut settlements. This landscape framework is guided by the school’s ethos and is organised around three thematic pillars: Learn with Exploration, Connect with Nature, and Cultivate Social Values. Drawing inspiration from the timeless tale of The Jungle Book, the design celebrates curiosity, discovery, and growth. At the heart of the site lies the Jungle Spine: a primary axis that aids intuitive navigation, weaving through the campus like a forest trail. Secondary pathways branch from this spine, each offering unique sensory journeys- some shaded by evergreen canopies, others revealing the beauty of changing seasons. Programs and landscape elements are thoughtfully placed around key transition zones between classrooms and open spaces, creating interactive, immersive environments where learning, play, and nature converge into a holistic educational experience.  Rooted Minds fosters a learning ground where students grow up naming trees before trends, spotting creatures before celebrities, and building a lifelong bond with the wild world that truly surrounds them.

Drawing Observations I An exercise creating a palette for the design process through on site observations from various projects.

Reading the Site I The site analysis of Shreyas Foundation focused on examining multiple layers such as vegetation, circulation, built form, and spatial experiences. Studying the school’s vision and mission revealed its rich philosophy, which B.V. Doshi thoughtfully interpreted through design. The densely vegetated site demanded attention to intricate micro-scale landscape layers.

Vision & Design Program I After site analysis and understanding Shreyas School’s core values, it was evident many spaces were underutilized, leading to the central question: How can landscape reveal ecology and enhance transitions meaningfully?

Design Conceptualization I Alteration 01- Site and Context Alteration 02- Philosophy of Landscape Architect Alteration 03- abstracts from narrative

. Shaping Space I Space Matrix: After exploring multiple masterplan iterations, a space matrix was curated to organize and refine spatial possibilities. It captured how various spaces could be expressed in different forms while consistently aligning with the core idea, ensuring flexibility in design without compromising the underlying conceptual and experiential intent.

Sculpting Spaces I Final Masterplan - Rooted Minds: Timetables of Discovery

Sculpting Spaces I Zoomed in Masterplan to understand spatial quality of spaces in detail along with sections.

Understanding Spatial Characteristics

Technical Strategies I Understanding planting, Lighting and Irrigation through RELD Framework; where R is Recreational, E is Ecological, L is Learning and D is Discovery.
