Impressions in Clay

Over sixteen weeks in the ceramics studio, I explored clay through handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab construction. The journey began with material studies like mimicking banana leaf in clay, gradually progressing to surface treatments with stains, underglazes, and glaze testing. Embracing the unpredictability of the kiln, I learned to adapt through hands-on experimentation. This process culminated in a sculptural ceramic furniture piece that embodies motion through form, rhythm, and texture. The modular design balances functionality with expressive craftsmanship, reflecting a deeper understanding of clay—not just as a material, but as a medium for movement, emotion, and storytelling.
