Shaping Surat’s Economic and Environmental Future

This project presents a Development Plan for Surat 2047, aimed at balancing economic growth with ecological sustainability. Surat, a key player in India’s business landscape, requires a future-ready strategy driven by growth catalysts and a liberal planning approach, where market dynamics and community-led innovation shape urban living. Conducted over 16 weeks, the studio involved site visits, iterative planning, and detailed proposals on zoning, infrastructure, costing, and implementation. A case study on the Bengaluru Development Plan informed the process. Collaborative work refined core proposals, while individual sectoral inputs, particularly on the Blue-Green Network, highlighted strategies for resilient and sustainable urban development.
