This integrated studio focused on the preparation of the Surat Master Plan 2047, aiming to develop a resilient and adaptable statutory development plan that responds to future uncertainties such as economic shifts, climate change, and market dynamics. Moving beyond traditional static planning methods, the studio embraced a flexible, scenario-based approach that holistically integrates land use, transport, infrastructure, housing, environment, and heritage. A detailed existing situation analysis of Surat was carried out by fourteen students from the Master in Urban Planning (MUP) program, covering diverse thematic areas. Based on this, three sub-groups developed alternative proposals at both the Master Plan and Zonal Development Plan levels, incorporating cost assessments, phased implementation strategies, and regulatory frameworks to ensure the proposals? viability.
A key highlight of the studio was its interdisciplinary integration with the Masters in Urban Transport Systems (MUTS), Urban Infrastructure (MUI), and Urban Housing (MUH) programs. This collaborative format enabled students from different domains to work closely through joint analysis, peer-to-peer reviews, and cross-learning sessions, fostering a multidimensional understanding of urban planning. The collective effort encouraged practical and innovative planning solutions tailored to Surat?s specific challenges and opportunities, making the studio a dynamic and holistic learning experience rooted in real-world urban complexities
