Surat Development Plan 2047- Towards a Connected Future

The Surat Development Plan 2047 Studio emphasized practical and strategic planning techniques critical for shaping a rapidly growing city. A layered approach was adopted—starting with an existing situation analysis, followed by spatial growth assessments, and household and road network surveys. These provided the foundation for zoning strategies rooted in ground realities. A hybrid zoning method was a key approach, combining incentive-based and regulatory tools to balance growth and conservation. The focus on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), mixed-use planning, and affordable housing showcased inclusive urban strategies. Special attention was given to phasing, costing, and implementation frameworks, which helped ground the vision into actionable steps. Peer and stakeholder discussions further refined proposals, making them context-sensitive and realistic. This studio fostered an understanding that planning is not just design—it’s a tool for shaping resilient futures.
