Surat, a rapidly growing city on the Tapi River, is known for its thriving textile and diamond industries, home to over 8 million people. The Surat integrated studio focused on addressing the city’s rising pressures on traffic, transport, and services through practical city planning. Using surveys and mapping, we developed hybrid zoning strategies with a focus on blue-green infrastructure, affordable housing, and enhanced transit connectivity. We also explored phasing, cost estimation, and implementation. Collaborating with stakeholders and peers helped refine our proposals, illustrating how thoughtful, flexible planning can guide Surat toward a more connected and resilient future.
