ELEMENTS OF URBAN DESIGN

This set of urban design exercises examines three interconnected scales—park, street, and block—through the lenses of form, function, and human experience. The Hisaya Odori Park study explores the relationship between buildings and open space, emphasizing how edges and transitions shape urban life. The Urban Street Design intervention transforms public right-of-ways into flexible, people-centered environments using strategic materiality and spatial layering. The Urban Block Design challenges students to reimagine dense residential contexts by introducing context-responsive public spaces that promote livability, inclusivity, and social engagement. Together, these exercises highlight the transformative power of design across scales.
