This studio serves as an introduction to urban design representation and the design of public spaces. It operates on the core idea that urban design is most effectively understood and conveyed through the careful observation and representation of the built environment. The first exercise focuses on understanding and graphically representing key components of urban design—such as building typologies, streets and open spaces—that together define the structure of any functional urban space. The second exercise delves into street analysis and the detailed design of street elements, exploring their spatial and social implications. The third and final module centers on analyzing an urban block to identify underlying spatial, social, or infrastructural issues, followed by the development of a context-sensitive design intervention aimed at addressing these challenges. Through this progressive structure, the studio enables students to critically engage with the scale, form, and character of urban design elements and to understand their interconnected roles within the broader urban fabric.
