URBAN GROWTH PREDICTION

This project focuses on predicting urban growth in Surat, India, using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Cellular Automata (CA) within the MOLUSCE plugin in QGIS. By analyzing Landsat imagery from 2010, 2020, and 2025, it models land use and land cover changes to simulate future urban expansion up to 2035. Results show a projected increase in built-up areas from 50.1% to 78.1%, and a decline in agricultural land from 49.9% to 21.5%. The study highlights rapid, unplanned urbanization leading to environmental degradation and congestion, emphasizing the need for sustainable urban planning and effective policy-making.
