Surat’s water supply system, primarily sourced from the Tapi River, is heavily energy-intensive, consuming 160 GWh annually—equal to powering 110,000 urban households. Currently, only 9.23% of this energy is from renewable sources. With rising water demand (25.6%) and energy use (20%) projected by 2047, urgent action is needed. Despite SMC’s plans to add 26.3 MW of renewable capacity, key issues persist—inefficient pumps, aging infrastructure, and high leakage/service complaints. This project focuses on optimizing Surat’s water-energy nexus through renewable integration, pump efficiency upgrades, and hydraulic redesign, aligning with SMC’s goal of achieving 50% renewable energy share by 2030.
