Reuse and Revive: Hospitality Spaces

This studio examines the relationship between histories, space planning and user experience in a hospitality project within a heritage site. These perspectives create awareness towards practices of adaptive reuse along with spatial organization of hospitality programs. The intent is to sensitize our design decisions while creating an intervention within an existing built structure.
The focus is on detailing of interior spaces and elements framed by critically analyzing the debates and practices in conservation and reuse. The socio-cultural context helps bring an appreciation of our built fabric with heritage values. The core of the studio dwells into creating meaning of place, sensitive to its roots while superimposing a new function with respect to user experience. Initial weeks of the studio will be focused on sensitizing students to the meaning of adaptive reuse by undertaking case studies and research exercises.
