A to Z of Civic Interiors- Under the flyover

The studio focused on economy and on the profession such that the outcome was designed to possess a complete package for an interior design project that can be built or proposed in real life. The students, thus, had the opportunity to design a project justifying the use of the site and to create a complete set of drawings, which could be used for a tender document or for presenting to a government body. Abandoned spaces under the flyovers were used to create volumes, within the urban context, which were inspired by the green spaces of the city and could be used for recreation and entertainment. Students had the opportunity to work with real life scenarios and suggest design problems to evolve potential uses of free space under the urban flyovers. City planners, taking a cue from such exercises, can formulate proposals for ‘Urban Interiors’ that shall not just propose to use but to enliven the presently dead spaces.
