Urban Transport Network Analysis & Design

Transportation network in urban areas is complex due to multiple modes, heterogeneous traffic sharing infrastructure and multiple possibilities of origin and destination. Urban transport network includes infrastructure facilities, vehicle and pedestrian flows, public transport facilities. Interrelationship between design and operation of all these elements is crucial in providing an efficient transport network.
This studio focuses on analysing and redesigning transport network of a selected ward in an urban area by focusing on road infrastructure design, traffic control devise design and provision, public transport infrastructure, non-motorized transport (NMT) users and pedestrian facilities. The studio will enable students to evaluate existing transport network, identify problems with existing urban transport network - may that be with infrastructure design, flow of vehicles or pedestrians, control and operation of roads or intersection or public transit design and equipped them to generate a holistic improvement strategy for infrastructure of urban transport network by using predictive data analysis, which is inclusive for drivers, pedestrians and transit users.
