The history of education in India can be traced back to exceptional institutions that were established centuries ago. The Benaras Hindu University is one such institution. The spatial constructs of the University embeds rich and diverse narratives. However, the physical and architectural infrastructure of the University has not yet been able to keep pace with the evolving educational structure, changing spatial and technological requirements, expanded student body and new emerging curricula. This studio is offered with a dual aim: on the one hand, to engage with narratives that can be embedded within architecture, and on the other hand, engage with charting out a path that positions itself within the context of urban regeneration, using the existing building stock for a re-qualification of an existing campus, representing the main challenge for a sustainable and dynamic future urban development.
