Spatial Narratives: Timeless and Experientially Engaging Architecture
Space making is much more than an act of building. It has emotions and expressions. Design is a dialogue where Designer encodes the messages and clues while the perceiver decodes the same. As space designer we conceive and as onlooker users perceive. The module wishes to focus on this most fundamental phenomenon of the space conception and space perception. It wishes to understand the fundamentals of space design as well as explore the spatial role of space making elements such as floor, column, wall, door, window, stair, ceiling etc. It wishes to understand the impact of basic design decisions of Siting and location, form and massing, movement and organizational structure, choice of elements, material and technique of construction, finishes and entablature. Course wishes to understand elements of nature such as light, vegetation, water and land as spatial elements and their role in space making. Using these as basic tools of space making, design a space that is interactive with its perceiver, which is expressive of emotions as well as experientially engaging.
The module proposes to design an emotionally charged campus such as memorial or museum or spiritual centre design and so on, amidst nature dominated setting and derive architectural resolutions for appropriate spatial narratives.
