TA: Helly PatelLanguage of Details - Interior Design
In this interior design studio, students will explore the Language of Details by examining how image, identity, and experience contribute to meaningful interior spaces. The course emphasizes developing a nuanced design process focused on articulating interior details that enhance user experience and convey meaning. Students will engage with diverse sites and program functions to hone skills in interpreting contextual cues and translating them into design solutions. They will investigate the influence of modern technologies and traditional crafts, understanding how these shape culturally, economically, and programmatically relevant interior details. By learning about production, fabrication, and assembly techniques, students will achieve a high degree of sophistication in their detailing. The studio encourages hands-on work, allowing students to design interior spaces with expressive qualities, considering both temporary and permanent environments. Through research, design development, workshops, critiques, and prototyping, students will complete a project showcasing a 1:1 scale sophisticated integration of details aligned with programmatic needs. This studio offers an opportunity to deepen an understanding of how detailed elements contribute to the essence of interior spaces, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical application to create interiors that are functional and rich in meaning and experience.
