Picking Wholes

The problem perceived may not be the problem to solve! Dealing with complex, messy, real world problems requires an entirely different skill set and capabilities. ‘Picking Wholes’ is a studio to learn to look at, understand and respond to complexity holistically. Often, we are surrounded by solutions that demand our behaviour to change or face severe penalties for not complying while not realising that the solution itself may be the problem! The studio will also deliberate on what kind of problems Design should look at.

This studio is an experiential learning opportunity to gain such abilities through finding design solutions that will transform the situation. The students will go through the stages of ‘Sense Making’, ‘Form Giving’ and ‘Real Making’ and will explore tangible and intangible solutions to a chosen real world, messy problem.

The pedagogy will be experiential and collaborative - as the students will work in groups and explore selected real world problems to find Design solutions.
